Yes, you read that right! For the past few months I have been learning WordPress to run my personal blog and for building small websites.
Previously, I have run the previous versions of this website on different CMSes or some custom application, mainly because this was a way for me to learn new technologies.
As an example, the last iteration was built using Miniblog.Core because at the time, I was moving to the .NET Core stack. This CMS was a good learning platform for that. I was also moving to cloud solutions, Azure/AWS/GCP, and with this micro-cms, I learnt a lot about Azure (using the free tier). So, using this blog as a learning tool has really served me well in the past few years.
However, going forward I will stick to the tried and tested WordPress.
The aim is not to master PHP or WordPress itself. But, just to know enough to be able to build and run a personal website or a website for a small organisation. I do not plan on writing themes or plugins, I just do not have the energy for that right now, maybe in the future. I am, however, considering using WordPress for my side project, curate.co.zw
